4minute member Sohyun is cast as a lead character in her debut film "Yellow Dog".
She will portray the role of Mi Soo, a college student who is always supportive of her Taekwondo athlete boyfriend. Her character is the type of person who kindly joins charity events and speaks against injustice.
"This is the first time I will be in such a production, and my heart is full of excitement," shared the idol-singer. "For the viewers to have warm feelings while watching this meaningful movie, I will do my best!"
Despite the enthusiasm of the singer, her casting has been met with negativity because although she has been in several films and dramas as a cameo, she is yet to portray a major role. Netizens expressed their disappointment by saying, "Not even casted in a mini-series, but a full movie... And a lead cast to boot...", "What in the world is this"?" and "Are they sure about this?"
"Yellow Dog" is about the story of a Taekwondo athlete who works hard to become a national athlete. He has a Filipino father and a Korean mother, and a big part of the plot will tackle the difficulties of being in a multi-cultural family. The viewers will be touched by the main character's growth as a person and as an athlete by overcoming these setbacks and difficulties.
The movie is directed by Park Yong Jib. It is set to begin its filming on October 28 and premiere on the first half of 2014.
