The Indian film producer of "Minsara Kanna" has accused "Parasite" of plagiarism. Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and acknowledging it as their own.

Last week, the 92nd Academy Awards was held in Los Angeles, California USA. The South Korean movie "Parasite" which was directed by Bong Joon Ho shocked everyone by taking home four Oscar awards. The awards were: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film.

After the Oscar awards, there were rumors and talks about "Parasite" that its story was copied or was imitated from the Indian KS Ravikumar movie titled "Minsara Kanna" that was starred by Vijay, Khushbu and Ramba. It was claimed that PL Thenappan who holds the rights of "Minsara Kanna" is planning to sue a plagiarism case with the help of an international lawyer against the "Parasite" production team.

The outlet India Today just recently reported that "Minsara Kanna" producer P.L. Thenappan stated that he watched the South Korean film "Parasite" and he felt that the said film has copied the story from "Minsara Kanna." He stated that he is in talks with some international lawyers and P.L. Thenappan added that he is also contemplating filing a case against the makers of "Parasite" soon.

In an interview, the TNM news reported that P.L. Thenappan said that they have taken the plot from his film. But according to TNM News, director K.S. Ravikumar stated that he is glad that the story has received an Oscar even though his film "Minsara Kanna" served as an inspiration. But the filing of the case is up to the producer of the film.

The Indian film "Minsara Kanna" is a 1999 romantic comedy that was directed by K.S. Ravikumar and also co-produced by K.R. Gangadharan. The story of this film is about a young man who falls in love with a woman from a wealthy family. To be able to persuade the girl's family, he hides his real identity and enters her home by working as a bodyguard. His sibling also works in the household as a housekeeper and chef.

On the other hand, in the 2019 film "Parasite" that was directed by Bong Joon Ho, the story of this film is about a struggling poor family that also falsified their identity and plans their way into gaining all employment as workers for a rich family.

India Today writes that while the plot of "Parasite" is the same as the "Minsara Kanna," but the motives of characters in both films are completely different.

"Parasite" director Bong has actually opened up about the inspiration behind his "Parasite" film. Based on the article by The Hollywood Reporter, the award-winning director Bong Joon Ho has experienced being a young boy's math tutor during his early 20s and that particular family was very rich. Bong had been introduced by his then-girlfriend, now wife, who had already been tutoring the boy in his English lessons.

This February 18, the production company of the film "Parasite" which is the CJ Entertainment replied to the reports. According to the with Maeil Business Newspaper's Star Today, the source from the production company CJ Entertainment stated that they have no idea about the plagiarism claims from an Indian film and they have not yet received any information about the said issue.
