The upcoming film "Baseball Girl" is about the struggle of a female baseball player who dreams of joining a professional baseball team. In high school, she is part of the baseball team, and is was the only girl on the team because of her talent, and she is even known on the campus as a baseball genius. She aims to continue playing baseball after graduating from high school.
While there is no rule that it's only for men, it's not always we see female baseball athletes. Plus, it's not for women to be professional baseball players in Korea.
With so much passion, the main character has so much to prove and that she is capable of being in the pro league. In the trailer, she even said, "How do people know my future? Even I don't know." She added that she would not give up her dream without trying.
Gender inequality is still rampant not only in Korea but as well as in many parts of the world. The advocates of gender equality have long been fighting. Yet, there are still many instances where they aren't considered, especially for women to play in a professional sports league, along with men.
Meanwhile, there are lots of independent and strong women around the world, fighting, struggling, and proving what they can do and can offer despite obvious prejudice.
Joo Soo-In (Lee Joo Young) will play as the team's pitcher. The trailer has shown her difficulties in keeping up with the training, but she didn't falter. She rose everytime she fell. Through the forthcoming movie "Baseball Girl," we'll get to see how she finds answers to her struggles towards her aspirations.
Things will also start to turn around when the team gets a new coach, played by Lee Joon Hyuk.
The 28-year-old Lee Joo-Young is known for her roles in "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo." She then starred in "School of Hip Hop," "Something in the Rain," "The Ghost Detective," and recently, JTBC's "Itaewon Class," where she played as a trans woman named Ma Hyun-Yi and is currently a massive hit in Netflix. She even won the Special Short Drama Actress for her participation in "Drama Special: House of the Universe" at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards.
