Jun Ji Hyun is reportedly the next female lead of the upcoming third season of Netflix hit Korean series, "Kingdom."
Reports stated on July 20 that the actress is currently in talks to be cast as the female lead of the forthcoming new installment of the zombie-themed series. It is disclosed that the new season is the prequel of "Kingdom."
While it was confirmed beforehand, Jun Ji Hyun shocked the viewers with her riveting appearance at the latter part of the sageuk's second season. And because of her brief cameo, the general public can't contain their excitement and anticipation for Jun Ji Hyun to potentially be the third season's main lead.
Fans expressed their enthusiasm and took to their SNS to comment on this possibility.
"We are hoping that our dear Jun Ji Hyun will make a drama comeback through this show," one netizen commented.
"JUN JI HYUN AND KINGDOM? WE LOVE TO SEE QUEEN," a Twitter user wrote.
"This will be a new genre for her," added another, and much more positive feedback poured in.
Meanwhile, Netflix's "Kingdom" released its response for the possibility of actress Jun Ji Hyun to be part of the cast.
This news popped up when Munhwa Ilbo released reports that the series was getting ready to launch a new prequel with Jun Ji Hyun as part of their cast since she was seen in the second season's finale. A source from the show claimed that the third season would feature the character of Ah Shin, which will potentially be portrayed by Jun Ji Hyun. It will show the story of how she became a warrior.
The source shared that it is quite hard for the same lead actors of both seasons to start their filming process of the third season ASAP since most of them have scheduling conflicts. So, most probably, the story's continuation would come in two or three years. The source stated that the show will feature the prequel story starring Jun Ji Hyun, and joining her will mostly be a new roster of characters.
Another report released by Star News claimed that the prequel would be a 70-minute short film and is already in the last stage of discussions. They also claimed that the filming is going to start in October for the prequel of the series.
To reply to these reports, one source from Netflix expressed that as of the moment, there has been no decision made on the future plans for "Kingdom." Currently, there's nothing to confirm concerning the cast, most especially the lead actors, the screenwriter, or even the show's director.
And lastly, it hasn't even been decided if there's a prequel or not.
In a newer update, Jun Ji Hyun's representative stated that the actress had received the casting offer, but they haven't talked about it in detail.
So, guys, let's just stay tuned for more updates to come!
