Lee Sun Gyun and Choi Woo Shik Reminisce Attending The Oscars and More in “Summer Vacation”
Co-stars from the Oscar-winning Korean film "Parasite," Lee Sun Gyun and Choi Woo Shik, talked about Oscars and more!
On the 21st of August, the variety show "Summer Vacation" released a new episode with guest star Lee Sun Gyun and Park Hee Soon and the hosts of the variety show, Choi Woo Shik, and Jung Yu Mi.
While Lee Sun Gyun, Choi Woo Shik, and Park Hee Soon were one the process of making rice wine, the Oscars became the trio's central topic where the hit film "Parasite" received four awards. Lee Sun Gyun then mentioned that since the Oscars are live, commercial breaks are considered as a time to go to the washroom.
If people from the show go out for a bathroom break and they don't go in before the commercial, they often get locked out of the room, also mentioning how actor Choi Woo Shik got locked out of the room, missing the first award of the hit Korean film. Choi Woo Shik immediately responded by saying that he said everything to go back in. According to Choi Woo Shik, his words were, "I'm Parasite! It's Me! Parasite! Kiwoo!"
What's hilarious is that the french actress Lea Séydoux was with him outside, and Choi Woo Shik tried to act that he was more upset.
Later in the evening, the boys talked about how Lee Sun Gyun got cast in "Parasite." Actor Lee Sun Gyun surprised Jung Yu Min when he said he didn't have any scenes with Choi Woo Shik in the film. He then shares that he got cast during working on "Bad Police," where the movie's costume designer previously worked with director Bong Joon Ho, who is the director of "Parasite." The costume designer told Lee sun Gyun that he should be expecting a call from Director Bong. While Lee Sun Gyun says he didn't expect it to be true, after a few days, Director Bong did call him.
Lee Sun Gyun says he felt so nervous, but he didn't want to show Director Bong how nervous he was. According to Lee Sun Gyun, Director Bong wanted to work with him although he had quite a young face for a role that has a daughter going on in her last year of high school. Lee Sun Gyun laughed and responded, "Director, my white hairs are insane. My hair is just dyed! I am more than capable!"
Early this 2020, "Parasite" made a monumental impact worldwide allowing it to be the first foreign film to win the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards. Lee Sun Gyun mentioned how he couldn't believe how insane coming up to the stage was. "Leonardo Dicaprio was even clapping for me," said the actor ecstaticly.
Choi Woo Shik also mentioned that Park Seo Joon did a cameo in the movie and how they became friends in working together on the program "Shut Up Family." Because Choi Woo Shik is Park Seo Joon's senior by six months, Choi Woo Shik jokes by saying that he raised Park Seo Joon when he couldn't even locate where the cameras were.
