The filming of Mnet's Kingdom, the boy group version of the survival show's Queendom in 2019, is reported to begin in January 2021.
Due to the success ad positive reviews and responses of Mnet's Queendom in 2019, the first show of the series, where girl groups and a solo artist competed against each other in performances and music charts, leads Mnet to launch the boy group version of the show called Kingdom. According to Joy News 24, Mnet is aiming to broadcast the show in February the following year.
Mnet's first survival show, Queendom, was released in August 2019 featuring different girl groups and a solo artist to compete for the championship by performing and ranking in music charts. MAMAMOO, Lovelyz, AOA, Oh My Girl, (G)I-DLE, and former 2ne1 member Park Bom, joined as challengers in the Queendom.
In April, the challengers of Mnet's previous show expressed their excitement in the upcoming show of that time, Road to Kingdom. Solar of MAMAMOO also predicted that after the Queendom, she is expecting a boy group version of the show, and even guessed the name of the show will be the counterpart of the Queen, Kingdom.
MAMAMOO won the 2019 Queendom, followed by Oh My Girl in the second place. Lovelyz, AOA, (G)I-DLE, and Park Bom, on the other hand, failed to be chosen as the finalists. The Kingdom is the third show of the series after Queendom and Road to Kingdom.
Recently this May, Road to Kingdom was introduced were 7 groups including ONF, The Boyz, PENTAGON, Golden Child, VERIVERY, and TOO, have participated. The show aimed to introduce groups with lesser popularity who have skills and potential to have more music show awards.
The winner of Mnet's Road to Kingdom, The Boyz will automatically be granted a spot as one of the Kingdom's challengers.
Kingdom is expected to air after Road to Kingdom, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans for filming and releasing of the third part of the series by Mnet was delayed and postponed until January the next year.
Aside from the certain spot of The Boyz is the show, Mnet officials are still in the process of contacting multiple entertainment companies and agencies for the artists that will be participating in the show for the filming in January. However, the lineup of the artists for the show is still not confirmed, leading to the viewer's speculations on the participating groups.
Fans and spectators on Twitter have been sharing their thoughts and guesses on the line-up of the show. Other people are hoping for Monsta X, TXT, Stray Kids, Ateez, NCT, Seventeen, and Astro's appearance and participation in the show.
Other updates for Mnet's Kingdom are yet to be revealed. But now, only the confirmation for the filming of the show in January is disclosed. The exact details for the show will be announced once decided.
