Lee Do Hyun Shares How His Role in '18 Again' Changed Him

Three years after his debut as an actor, rising star Lee Do Hyun just finished his first-ever lead role in his latest drama, "18 Again."

In his recent pictorial and interview with Star & Style magazine, which will be released in December 2020, the actor struck an exquisite yet elegant pose, which made him receive a lot of compliments from the staff during the shoot.

In his role as a younger version of Hong Dae Yong in "18 Again," the actor bid farewell in his role as a 37-year-old man who is dealing with a lot of regrets in life and suddenly finds himself back in his 18-year-old body and begins to live a new life. The older version of Hong Da Young was portrayed by the great actor Yoon Sang Hyun.

Lee Do Hyun also shared that he learned a lot from his character.

As he starts sharing his film experiences, he first described what had stressed him out the most about his role, Lee Do Hyun said, "'18 Again' was a drama that gave me a lot of pressure, because I feel anxious, 'What if I can't portray my role similar to Yoon Sang Hyun?' But I was very happy and relieved that we received a lot of positive responses."

Lee Do Hyun also humbly express that he was very proud of his first leading role, because he worked hard on studying everything from script, character, and even his performances in every scene.

The actor also mentioned that he was part of a basketball team in his high school days and had the chance to be part of a tournament. It makes his work easier, for his role as Hong Dae Yong (younger version) is also a promising basketball player. It gave him the opportunity to show his great basketball skills, which became a hot topic after the episode was aired.

He said, "I was impressed throughout the shooting, because I remembered the scene where I had actually played in a competition," Do hyun added, "I also appreciate that specific scene where I was holding a trophy, it brings back my past memories in the basketball game."

"18 Again" is a drama that deals with paternal love, making Lee Do Hyun reflect on his relationship with his father. The actor choose a memorable scene where he (character of Hong Dae Yong) is in the middle of a basketball game, telling his father that he is Hong Dae Yong his son, a moment of father and son clearing up their misunderstandings.

He continued, "While filming for the drama, I always remember my father and kept thinking about him, and it inspired me to put more effort into becoming a loving son." He also expressed his gratitude and love for the work.

Lee Do Hyun also shared his honest thought about the drama: "I think '18 Again' was a drama that was able to break certain stereotypes of father and son relationships."

After the success of "18 Again," the actor is set to play a new role in the new Netflix series titled "Sweet Home" alongside Song Kang. The upcoming series will air its first episode on Dec. 18.
