"Minari" movie continues to reign on the big screen following its much-awaited premiere earlier this year.

In a recent report, the Lee Isaac Chung-directed film has been dominating the box office for 18 consecutive days since its debut.

With this, the award-winning Korean movie has reached a total of over 600,000 viewership, as mentioned by the Integrated Computer Network of Cinematography by the Film Promotion Committee.

On the other hand, Variety has cited that "Minari" was able to hit 1.09 million USD, covering Friday and Monday sales.

Interestingly, the Golden Globe winner's cumulative total has reached 5.63 million USD, making them the box office hit movie in South Korea.

Moreover, the publication also added that the drama film is the third-highest scoring film in the country for this year, next to Disney/Pixar's "Soul" that gained a whopping 16.6 million USD, as well as the Japanese animation "Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train" earning a total of 11.5 million USD.

Prior to this, "Minari" was able to rake 1.68 million USD during the first week of its screening and gained a cumulative audience exceeding to 440,00 on its 11th day of showing.

"Minari" Awards and Nominations

Aside from securing its spot in the box office, "Minari" has been headlining the news for its historic wins and nominations.

Recently, the highly anticipated film scored several nods at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The "Minari" movie's Oscar nominations include the six major categories--this includes Best Actor Award for Steven Yeun, Best Supporting Actor Award for Yoon Yeo-Jeong's portrayal of grandma Soonja, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Picture.

Just weeks after the film got nominated in the Oscars, the Lee Isaac Chung movie bagged Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language at the 2021 Golden Globe Awards.

This significant achievement made a historic move as the second Korean film language to score the prestigious awards.

Aside from "Minari's" Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, the comedy-drama film won two categories at the 2021 Critics' Choice Movie Award.

Alan Kim's acceptance speech for the Best Young Performer went viral after the eight-year-old was totally surprised with his award and broke down into tears.

"First of all, I'd like to thank the critics who voted and my family...oh my goodness, I'm crying," the child actor mentioned, as he tried to fight back his tears.

At the same time, "Minari" director Lee Isaac Chung's daughter also stole the show with her heartwarming comment as her father accepted the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

The award-winning filmmaker's seven-year-old daughter said, "I prayed! I prayed!" as soon as the host announced her father's name.

"Minari" follows the story of a Korean family who moves to an Arkansas farm in hopes of finding their American dream.

Set in the 1980s, the patriarch, played by Yeun and his wife, Monica, portrayed by Yeri Han, faced obstacles alongside her mother, and Soonja, and their two American-born children Anne and David, played by Noel Kate Cho and newcomer Alan S. Kim.
