Oh Man Seok Shares Thoughts on his "Youth of May" Role

During the interview with Arena Korea, Oh Man Seok spoke about the character in "Youth of May."

In the melodrama, he plays the terrifying Hwang Gi Nam, who was in charge during the Gwangju Uprising.

Interestingly, he defends himself from his drama role and says that he is much different from Hwang Gi Nam, adding "I'm not that bad of a person."

Contrary to his "Youth of May" character, who was described as the quick-tempered and power-obsessed father of Hwang Hee Tae, played by Lee Do Hyun, Oh Man Seok revealed that he does not get mad easily and can control his emotions, unlike Hwang Gi Nam.

"When I'm angry, I get rid of it quickly, and I'm not meticulous enough to carefully control it from behind."

"Youth of May" Director Praised Oh Man Seok's Actig Skills as Hwang Gi Nam

Following the successful "Youth of may" finale, the drama villain received a positive response from the public, lauding his impressive portrayal as the head of defense military and anti-protestors, who is consumed by his status and power.

In a previous interview of "Youth of May" director Song Min Yeob expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards Oh Man Seok for his astounding work.

He pointed out that the role of Hwang Gi Nam was not an easy character to play, but he aced the part and gave justice to the role.

"He's one of the people I'm grateful towards in many aspects. It wasn't an easy role to portray, and there were many difficult scenes."

In addition, the PD also noted that the actor managed to use satoori or a Korean word for regional dialect, despite not being included in the script.

"When he was angry or emotional, he used satoori," the "Youth of May" director explained, adding "He expressed it well to the point that it was scary."

On the other hand, PD Song Min Yeob knows about how scary Hwang Gi Nam is but shares that this contradicts Oh Man Seok in real life and even described the 46-year-old actor as his "older brother."

Moreover, lauded how "cheerful" and opinionated he is on the set.
