Ju Ji Hoon is confirmed to reprise his role as Crown Prince Lee Chang in an upcoming spin-off titled "Kingdom: The Crown Prince."
The announcement comes before the highly anticipated premiere of the special episode "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" starring Jun Ji Hyun.
"The Outlaws" PD to Work on "Kingdom: The Crown Prince" with Ju Ji Hoon
According to Sports Chosun, the second spin-off will be helmed by PD Kang Yoon Sung, whose famous works include the 2017 action-comedy movie "The Outlaws."
Following the announcement, the director is currently in pre-production and plans to start filming in the second half of 2021.
"Kingdom: The Crown Prince" predicts to heighten the K-zombie syndrome through the intriguing storyline and captivating visuals.
Moreover, the second side story will unravel the untold stories from his past--including being born as an illegitimate child.
Thankfully, due to his skills and determination to secure the Kingdom of Joseon, he gained the respect of the people as slowly became a powerful monarch.
Upcoming Spin-off Penned by "Kingdom" Screenwriter?
Earlier this month, rumors sparked that the streaming giant is set to drop another spin-off that would focus on the Crown Prince's character and his mission to protect the people from the flesh-eating creature caused by a mysterious plague.
At the time, a representative from Netflix Korea explained that "nothing has been confirmed."
Although the new update did not mention the screenwriter who will pen the upcoming special episode, veteran writer Kim Eun Hee, is reportedly set to work on the script.
To recall, she is also the person behind the previous season of "Kingdom" alongside PD Kim Sung Hoon.
"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" Debut
While Ju Ji Hoon is gearing for the second side story of the mega-hit K-zombie "Kingdom," the first spin-off is set to make a debut today, July 23, exclusively on Netflix.
It stars the Hallyu queen Jun Ji Hyun alongside Park Byung Eun, Kim Shi Ah, Koo Kyo Hwan, and Kim Roe Ha.
In "Kingdom: Ashin of the North," the 39-year-old A-lister is set to uncover her mysterious character as Ashin, which was welcomed in the "Kingdom 2" finale.
Moreover, Park Byung Eun will also reprise his role as the head of the Royal Commandery Division, Min Chi Rok, who worked side by side with Crown prince Lee Chang.
Meanwhile, Kim Shi Ah took on the role of the young Ashin, while Kim Roe Ha played her on-screen father, Ta Hab.
Koo Kyo Hwan is set to be the movie villain through his role as the brutal tribe leader Ai Da Gan.
From "Princess Hours" to "Cliffhanger"
The K-zombie series "Kingdom" is one of Ju Ji Hoon's notable projects since he made his acting debut.
Interestingly, his claim to fame is the role of Lee Shin in 2006 hit K-drama "Princess Hours" with Yoon Eun Hye.
Apart from "Kingdom: The Crown Prince," he will also reunite with Jun Ji Hyun in his upcoming K-drama "Cliffhanger."
