2016's "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" is arguably one of the best Korean dramas ever. Evidently, viewers loved it, to the extent that even after five years, fans remain hopeful for a sophomore season.

But are the cast members up for a sequel? Let's take a look at the latest updates about the much-loved drama's star-studded cast.

Lee Joon Gi

A brilliant actor that he is, Lee Joon Gi is always lauded for his performances as he immerses himself in every role he takes on. The actor, as expected, earned praises for his impeccable acting in "Flower of Evil," alongside Moon Chae Won.

But five years since "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" concluded, Lee Joon Gi is still in contact with his co-stars. As a matter of fact, if you visit his Instagram account, the Korean star showcases his friendship with IU and EXO's Baekhyun. He even attended their concerts!

In celebration of his birthday last April 2021, Lee Joon Gi had a special online event where his "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" co-star and real-life friend IU made a surprise phone call. During their conversation, the two have shown their interest in having "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" Season 2.

IU confessed she thinks most of the cast and crew who were part of the drama want to work again on the project.

Lee Ji Eun / IU

One of the best soloists, Lee Ji Eun, popularly known as IU, remained booked and busy after the 2016 drama finale. She released a slew of OSTs, new albums, and starred in dramas.

After "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," IU headlined acclaimed Korean TV series "My Mister" and "Hotel Del Luna."

To consistently communicate with her fans - Uaenas - the idol-actress launched her own show on her official YouTube channel. There, she uploads various contents that her fans can enjoy. IU also invited some of her close celebrity friends on her show.

Even though there is no confirmed drama for her yet, IU is busy preparing for her silver screen return with "Dream" and "Broker."

Kang Ha Neul

Starting from having small roles to landing into lead roles, it's safe to say that Kang Ha Neul is now an esteemed luminary.

Further, did you know that he took home the Excellent Actor Award in 2016 SBS Drama Award for his performance in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo"?

What's more? He clinched the 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards - Best Actor trophy for his amazing performance as a bashful police officer in "When the Camellia Blooms." And to be precise, the 31-year-old actor won not one, not two, and not three, but four trophies for his excellent acting in the 2019 K-drama.

This 2021, Kang Ha Neul is slated for his small screen return with "Insider." He is also busy filming two movies, namely "Streaming" and "Happy New Year."

Kang Han Na

Following her stint in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," Kang Han Na expanded her potential in the acting field. She has evolved into a versatile actress and landed big drama projects. From her 2019 series "Designated Survivor: 60 Days," Kang Han Na immediately got two drama roles in "Start-Up" (2020) and "My Roommate is a Gumiho" (2021) where she has shown her immersive acting and improvement as an actress.

And since many were impressed and enjoyed her portrayal in the "My Roommate is a Gumiho," Kang Han Na already received a casting offer to star in a new drama "Red Heart," where she might work with idol-actor Lee Joon. According to her agency KeyEast Entertainment, the rising actress is positively reviewing the project.

EXO's Baekhyun

Fans loved EXO's Baekhyun's character as the adorable youngest prince in the historical drama. He was already an established idol as the main vocalist of supergroup EXO even before starring in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo," but the drama expanded his horizons - particularly in the acting arena. (Spoiler: we still can't get over 10th Prince Wang Eun's death!)

Joining the drama gave Baekhyun an opportunity to showcase his knack for acting.

Currently, the idol-actor is fulfilling his military service. But prior to enlisting, Baekhyun made new music releases, such as drama soundtracks, solo and group albums.

Meanwhile, Nam Joo Hyuk starred as the lead in "Start-Up" with Kang Han Na, while Hong Jong Hyun was the lead in "The King In Love" and also starred in "Mother of Mine."

Girls' Generation's Seohyun then starred in "Private Lives" with Go Kyung Pyo, while Yoon Sun Woo appeared in the 2020 Korean drama "Awaken" with Namgoong Min.

Z.hera appeared in "Love Alarm," while Ji Soo is currently enlisted.
