Sung Joon, who played the devoted bodyguard Gon in "Gu Family Book" and the leader of the high school band in "Shut Up Flower Boy Band" is ready for a new role. And it's a romantic one. He has been cast in the leading role in "I Need Romance Season 3."
The third seasobn takes place in the offices of a home shopping network but Sung Joon's role has nothing to do with shopping. He plays Joo Won, a 26-year-old genius composer who has lived abroad and returns to Korea to find his lost love. He hasn't seen her in 17 years so he's not sure what to expect. But he is sure that he's never forgotten her.
Kim So Yeon will play his lost love, a 33-year-old fashion director who works at the home shopping network. The actress, known for her work in "Iljimae" and "All About Eve," recently won a 2013 APAN Star award for her role as the determined detective Park Jae Kyung in the action thriller "Two Weeks."
Kim's character is very successful but to succeed she had to distance herself from others. And she has become rather jaded and cynical about romance. She is seeing someone who works at her office but she is hardly head over heels in love with him. She's not sure she even believes in love.
Nam Goong Min, who appeared in "Can You Hear My Heart?" is considering playing the role of her coworker. But odds are her co-worker boyfriend will no longer seem as attractive once Sung Joon shows up and passionately attempts to win her jaded heart.
Yoon Seung Ah is considering the role of a female colleague in Kim So Yeon's office. There's no word as to whether that role will supply a rival for Sung Joon's affections. And no other roles have yet been cast.
The first two seasons in this series delivered smart 'Sex and the City" style stories about single career women in their 30s. And this season sounds like it will offer more of the same, especially since it employs the same writer and director who contributed to the success of the first two seasons of "I Need Romance." Jung Hyun Jung, who wrote the first two seasons, and director Jang Young Woo, who directed them, are back for round three. The drama will be shown on Mondays and Tuesdays, beginning in January.
