Choi Woo Shik’s ‘The Policeman's Lineage’ Ranks First During Premiere + Surpasses ‘S​​pider-Man: No Way Home’ in Box Office

"The Policeman's Lineage," starring Choi Woo Shik, Jo Jin Woong and more, is off to a good start during its debut showing.

Released on January 5, Film Promotion Committee's integrated computer network for cinema admissions reported that the mystery crime film took the top spot at the box office.

'The Policeman's Lineage' Defeated 'S​​pider-Man: No Way Home'

On its first screening day, "The Policeman's Lineage" garnered over 64,000 audiences, making it the current box office hit.

Interestingly, the South Korean movie ended the long reign of Tom Holland's "Spider-Man: No Way Home."

To recall, the "Spider-Man" sequel has accumulated a total of 6,251,416 since it debuted and took the top spot in the box office for three consecutive weeks.

However, the number of audiences slowed on the same day that Choi Woo Shik and Jo Jin Woong's film was released, garnering only 53,398 on January 5.

'The Policeman's Lineage' Cast and Synopsis

Helmed by "Gang Ho's Childbirth Story" director Lee Kyoo Man, it follows the story of two policemen handling the agency's biggest case that would rock the police organization.

In the movie, Jo Jin Woong took on the role of regional investigation unit head Park Kang Yoon, who arrests and puts criminals behind bars by hook or by crook.

His tactic is to use illegal means to gain information about a specific case.

On the other hand, Choi Woo Shik portrays police officer Choi Min Jae, who is described as one of the decent in the organization.

He took on the task of looking into Park Kang Yoon's corruption in the police force.

The duo's team up stimulates the viewer's curiosity with Choi Woo Shik and Jo Jin Woong's unconventional teamwork.

Apart from the lead stars, joining "The Policeman's Lineage" cast is "My Name" star Park Hee Soon who transforms as the fierce Chief Inspector Hwang In Ho.

He was the one who instructed police officer Choi Min Jae to go undercover to retrieve files and gather the information that would link to his father.

Joining the cast is Lee Hyun Wook, who took on the character of Team leader Han as well as "Crash Landing on You" actor Park Myung Hoon, Kwon Yool and more.

Choi Woo Shik Details his Experience and Thoughts on 'The Policeman's Lineage'

The mystery crime movie is the "Parasite" star's return to the big screen after landing the role of Gi Hoon in the 2020 film "Time to Hunt."

In an interview with Asia Business Daily, Choi Woo Shik says that he wanted to show the different side of him as an actor through his new movie.

Moreover, he also spoke about what it feels like shooting and being in an action-packed scene.

"With action scenes, I'm thinking only about how to adjust my position with my body while thinking about if I should hit harder or not. I thought that action films were quite appealing, and I want to try more of these in the future," he said.

Aside from "The Policeman's Lineage," Choi Woo Shik is also appearing in SBS "Our Beloved Summer" with Kim Da Mi.
