Before "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" dominated the Netflix global rankings, the 2014 movie "The Pirates" starring Son Ye Jin and Kim Nam Gil raked millions of audiences in theaters.
The movie sequel is gaining the public's attention with its interesting cast lineup, and the impressive visuals through CGI effects.
"The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure," which stars Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, EXO's Sehun, "Rookie Cops" star Chae Soo Bin, and more was first released on January 26, and aired on Netflix starting on March 2.
Interestingly, at the time of its premiere, the sequel scored an incredible milestone after becoming the first Korean film of 2022 to exceed one million moviegoers in a span of one week.
However, aside from the achievement of the 2022 movie, did you know that the first sequel drew more than 8.6 million audiences at the box office.
Moreover, the movie distributor, Lotte Entertainment, also pre-sold the adventure comedy film to 15 countries at the 2014 Cannes Film Market. It also gained a positive response from the global audience.

Son Ye Jin (Yeo Wol)
Before playing the South Korean heiress in "Crash Landing on You," Son ye Jin took on the role of the female pirate captain, Yeo Wol, in the 2014 movie.
Deviating from her usual rom-com and drama projects, viewers get to see the other side of the 39-year-old beauty and show her diversity as an actress as she lands her first major action role.

Eight years after "The Pirates" was released, Son Ye Jin is headlining the cast of "Thirty-Nine" alongside the equally stunning Jeon Mi Do and Kim Ji Hyun.
She takes on the role of head dermatologist Cha Mi Jo who is set to go through a roller coaster of emotions before she turns 40.
Interestingly, she is also set to walk down the aisle this March with "Crash Landing on You" co-star Hyun Bin.
Kim Nam Gil (Jang Sa Jung)
The award-winning actor played the bandit leader Jang Sa Jung in "The Pirates."
While his co-star is gearing up for the upcoming wedding, Kim Nam Gil is preparing for a slew of projects this 2022.
The 40-year-old actor will be starring in multiple K-dramas, starting with his current series "Through the Darkness."
Following this, he also confirmed to star in OCN's mystery thriller series "Island" alongside Lee Da Hee and ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo.
Furthermore, he is also rumored to headline the cast of Netflix's "Thief: The Sound of the Sword" with Girls' Generations Seohyun.
As for movies, Kim Nam Gil welcomed 2022 with the movie "Emergency Declaration" with a roster of talented stars Lee Byung Hun, "Parasite" star Song Kang Ho and Jeon Do Yeon.
He will also join as the lead star in Lee Jung Jae's directorial film "Hunt" with Jung Woo Sung.
