IU, whose real name is Lee Ji Eun, gained attention worldwide after arriving at Cannes Film Festival 2022.

The 75th annual Cannes Film Festival took place at the Palace of Festivals and Congresses of Cannes starting May 18 to May 28.

The singer-actress graced the ceremony alongside co-stars Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, and Lee Jo Young after the movie "Broker" was invited to compete for the Palme d'Or of the 75th Cannes Film Festival.

According to Korea Joong Ang Daily, the drama film directed by renowned Japanese filmmaker Koreeda Hirokazu will premiere in the prestigious festival alongside another Korean movie "Decision to Leave'' helmed by "The Handmaiden" director Park Chan Wook.

With this, the whole team, except Bae Doona, was spotted leaving Incheon International Airport on May 24 to head to France.

In an article shared on May 25, U.S media outlet Deadline wrote about IU's "first trip" to Cannes' red carpet.

The singer-actress was described as Korean Multi-Hyphenate due to her significance in both the music and acting industry.

In addition, the outlet also highlighted the 29-year-old star's moniker as South Korea's "national treasure."

Moreover, the article also cited the impact of social media after IU heads to the annual festival.

"When the Cannes Film Festival lineup was announced on April 14, Twitter positively exploded with excitement over the news that Lee Ji-Eun would make her Riviera debut with Hirokazu Koreeda's "Broker" in Competition," the report reads.

Even adding the A-lister's achievements from the success of her first commercial to her acting debut in 2011 and the smash hit K-drama "Hotel Del Luna."

Interestingly, "Broker" is IU's comeback to the big screen after a lead role in the 2021 movie "Shades of the Heart."

In addition, because of the Koreeda Hirokazu film, the singer-actress was able to have her first appearance at Cannes.

The Japanese filmmaker previously revealed what prompted him to cast IU in "Broker."

As noted by Newsen, he instantly fell in love with IU's performance in the 2018n K-drama "My Mister."

According to Koreeda Hirokazu, "it was very surprising to be able to perform infinitely restrained acting throughout the entire drama."

In the upcoming Cannes Film Festival selected movie, the singer-actress plays So Young, a young mother who has no choice but to leave her newborn in a baby box and finds a new family with the help of brokers Sang Hyun and Dong Soo, played by Song Kang Ho and Kang Dong Won.
