"Hunt" follows the story of two elite agents whose mission is to uncover a North Korean spy known as Donglim during the peak of the military dictatorship in the 1980s.

Lee Jung Jae plays National Intelligence Service (NIS) Foreign Unit chief Park Pyong Ho and works alongside Domestic Unit chief Kim Jung Do, portrayed by Jung Woo Sung.

The duo's task is to prevent the spy from leaking top-secret intel that could jeopardize national security.

Jeon Hye Jin is joining the duo as one of their fellow agents alongside "Law School" actress Go Yoon Jung.

Meanwhile, Heo Sung Tae, known as the villain in "Squid Game" will also be reunited with Lee Jung Jae.

'Hunt' at Cannes Film Festival 2022

Before the success of "Squid Game," Lee Jung Jae was preparing for his first directorial movie and worked on the script for four years to perfect it.

Interestingly, before the theatrical release, "Hunt" was chosen to be part of the Cannes Film Festival 2022.

Lee Jung Jae's movie was invited to premiere for the Midnight Screening section together with David Bowie's documentary "Moonage Daydream," helmed by Brett Morgen, and "Fumer Fait Tousser" by director Quentin Dupieu.

At the prestigious festival, the lead stars were stunned as "Hunt" got a 7-minute long standing ovation. At the time, Lee Jung Jae said that he was amazed by the overwhelming reaction of the crowd.

As obtained by Ten Asia, the actor-director said that he was "moved by the long applause" and mentioned how he hugged his co-star Jung Woo Sung "awkwardly" as his initial reaction. His recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival was Lee Jung Jae's second time attending the prestigeous event.

To recall, he first attended the annual film festival after the 2010 film "The Housemaid'' with Jeon Do Yeon was invited to compete in the ceremony.

Recalling his experience, the actor said it was a "great experience" and could not believe that he returned as a director.

Aside from his upcoming movie, Lee Jung Jae will also return in the highly anticipated "Squid Game 2," reprising his role as Seong Gi Hoon.
