'The Roundup' Craze Continues as Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's Movie Hit the 12 Million Mark

In a report cited by Star News, the Korean Film Council confirmed that the blockbuster sequel officially exceeded 12 million moviegoers, showing its dominance at the box office for more than a month.

As noted by the film council, the action movie garnered a cumulative audience of 1,204,442 on June 26.

Additionally, "The Roundup" officially became the 14th Korean film in history to hit the 12 million mark.

It has been said that Ma Dong Seok and Son Seok Koo's film is predicted to become one of the top-selling Korean films. It surpassed "Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days," "Masquerade," "The King and the Clown," and "A Taxi Driver" as the fastest movie to reach 12 million moviegoers.

To recall, "The Roundup" has been making headlines and scoring achievements after its premiere at the box office.

Aside from the warm support of viewers, the action film had the best opening record for a Korean film since the pandemic.

On top of it, it became the first K-movie to reach 10 million since 2019, beating the award-winning film "Parasite" directed by renowned Bong Joon Ho.

'The Roundup' Gains Hype Among Viewers and Media Outlets

Lead star Ma Dong Seok and the cast members expressed their deep gratitude to millions of viewers who watched "The Roundup," making it the most-watched film since the pandemic.

On his latest Instagram post, the 51-year-old star, also known by his American name, Don Lee, posted a still cut from the film alongside a caption that reads, "12M admissions in Korea, amid the pandemic. Thank you for the unbelievable result."


The same goes for "The Roundup" distributor ABO Entertainment who thanked the 12 million viewers for the overwhelming support with a photo featuring the whole team of the movie.

Interestingly, "The Outlaws" sequel not only gained positive reviews from the local audience but was praised by various international outlets.

In an article cited by Variety, the American media outlet described the movie as a "high-wire act" that "maximizes both humor and extreme harm without ever seeming callous, or even unrealistic.

On the other hand, "The Roundup" scored a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes both in Tomatometer and the Audience Score.
