Lee Min Ho's 'Pachinko' Included in this Year's Emmy Snubs

The novel-based series "Pachinko" took the world by storm as the eight-part episode drama depicts a unique and emotional storyline and boasts a roster of talented A-lister stars.

The Apple TV+ series stars Lee Min Ho as Ko Hansu, a businessman native of South Korea but lives in Osaka, Japan. He gets intertwined with Kim Sunja, played by Kim Min Ha.

"Pachinko" revolves around the story of Sunja, who is also portrayed by the Oscar winner Youn Yuh Jung.

At the height of the series, it gained massive praise from viewers, critics, and even the media, noting how the story was well executed alongside the actors' impressive portrayals.

Unfortunately, "Pachinko" was among Emmys 2022 snubs together with "This Is Us," "Reservation Dogs," Netflix's "Maid" and more.

With this, foreign media outlets expressed their disappointment for excluding "Pachinko" from a major nomination. This is because the series only got one nod - the Main Design Title which is a minor category.

Foreign Media Disappointed Over 'Pachinkos'' Emmys Snub

In an article written by IGN, it described "Pachinko" as a "well-reviewed series" but questioned the Emmy giving only a single nomination "despite having an Oscar-winning actress" referring to the renowned South Korean star Youn Yuh Jung.

The same goes for Indiewire, which pointed out that the eight-part episode series has an "extremely vocal online fan base paired with rave reviews." Despite that, it "couldn't push the Apple TV+ drama series into Emmy favor."

Moreover, the outlet also thinks that it might be a "stiff competition, could be a lack of overall viewership, could be a lot of little reasons that stacked up at the wrong time." They added that the snub "is hard to swallow."

Meanwhile, Collider highlights how the Emmys 2022 missed Kim Min Ha's superb portrayal as she served as the "grounding force of the story" noting how "she delicately captured both the vulnerability and strength of her character with ease.

"She crafted a complex character all her own, making every solitary moment feel like it was bursting with emotion," as mentioned in the article.

Despite the Emmys 2022 snubbing "Pachinko," another South Korean content made it with multiple nods.

Netflix's "Squid Game" scored 14 nominations with most of them being major categories.

It includes Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung Jae,) Outstanding Supporting Actor (Park Hae Soo and Oh Young Soo,) Outstanding Supporting Actress (Jung Ho Yeon,) Outstanding Guest Actress (Lee Yoo Mi,) Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program, Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode and Outstanding Stunt Performance.
