Lee Jung Jae’s ‘Hunt’ Enters Fantasy Film Fest 2022

Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung's movie "Hunt" scored another invitation to an international film festival.

Amid the film's success at the Korean box office, the espionage action movie will be screened at the Fantasy Film Fest 2022.

Directed by Lee Jung Jae, "Hunt" depicts the story of two top-tier National Intelligence Service (NIS) agents Park Pyung Ho (Lee Jung Jae) and Kim Jung Do(Jung Woo Sung), who were assigned to undergo a special mission dubbed "Korea's number 1 assassination operation." However, in the middle of their mission, they came across a massive discovery and were accused of being the mole in the operation.

Besides the duo, the "Hunt" cast also includes "Squid Game" villain Heo Sung Tae, Goo Yoon Jung, and Jeon Hye Jin.

'Hunt' Advances to Fantasy Film Fest 2022

According to reports, "Hunt" was selected as the official invitation for the 36th Fantasy Film Festival which will be held in Germany from September 7 to September 28.

The international film festival is said to be the largest genre film festival held annually and shown in major German cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Munich, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart.

Fantasy Film Festival caters to genres under science fiction, horror, thriller, black comedy, animation and animé, fantasy, and action-adventure categories.

Besides Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung's movies, Fantasy Film Festival has invited a few Korean films like "The Villain," Gong Yoo's "Train to Busan" and "The Priests" starring Kang Do Won, Park So Dam, and Kim Yoon Seok.

Apart from the upcoming film festival in Germany, and officially surpassing 3 million viewers at the Korean box office, "Hunt" made its world premiere after entering the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for the Out of Competition-Midnight Screenings.

Interestingly, amid the positive response from the public and getting a standing ovation from the crowd, Lee Jung Jae revealed that he made minor revisions after returning from the film fest.

In an interview by YTN, the actor-director shared that he "did make adjustments right away on the flight home."

While it took him four years to write "Hunt," it is also the time when he was shooting for the blockbuster Netflix series "Squid Game" and admitted that it was quite challenging to do both.

However, his drive led him to continue to work on the espionage action movie, and thinks that it would be a "waste to not film it." The actor also admitted that he had doubts about having his directorial debut.

"If I put a historical motif like this, I was afraid that the criticism would have a bad effect on my career if I made a mistake," he said.

Lo and behold, "Hunt" is continuing its global success and even ranked second as the second most tweeted K-movie in 2022.
