As obtained by Wikitree, an article was posted online on September 20, talking about why the "Juvenile Justice" star doesn't have ear piercings.

In an article titled "Why Kim Hyen Soo didn't have her ears pierced" netizens were curious about why the award-winning actress chose not to have piercings.

As seen in various photos, Kim Hye Soo dons different kinds of earrings for photoshoots, to her red carpet looks; however, it seem like these are just clip on earings. When you look closer, the actress doesn't have traces that he had any piercings on both ears.

Although the renowned actress has not addressed this, the outlet shared that there's an anecdote that this is in preparation for her appearance in historical K-drama.

In a 2013 article, at the height of her K-drama "The Queen of Office" where she took the role of Ms. Kim Jeom Sun, rumor sparked that Kim Hye Soo did not have her ears pierced because she did not know when she would appear in a historical drama."

While the modern custom in South Korea only allows a middle school, high school, or even college-age woman instead of infants to have her ears pierced, this practice has a deeper meaning during the ancient dynasties.

According to a website, the Silla dynasty sees piercings as amulets to avert evil spirits while the Goryeo dynasty wore earrings to display their power.

On the other hand, the mid-Chosun dynasty officially prohibited the practice, saying that this is a barbaric custom that opposed Confucian ideals.

The 52-year-old actress is having her lead role in her first historical K-drama since her debut.

She took the role of Queen Im Hwa Ryeong who is set to teach her troublemaker son as she prepares them for future responsibilities at the palace.

Moreover, the upcoming historical K-drama will also showcase her relationship with the King's mother, Queen Dowager, played by veteran actress Kim Hae Sook.

Joining Kim Hye Soo as "The Queen's Umbrella" cast members are Choi Won Young as Joseon's King Lee Ho, and her five sons Moon Sang Min as Prince Seong Nam, SF9's Chani, who took the role of Prince Ui Seong, Yoon Sang Hyun as Prince Mu Ahn, Yoo Sun Ho as Prince Kye Seong, and Kim Min Ki who plays Prince Bo Geom.

Apart from them, viewers will also get to see "Big Mouth" actress Ok Ja Yeon as Royal Consort Hwang while Kim Eui Sun will be the palace's Hwang Won Hyung.
