Jo Byeong Gyu Rejects Offer to Lead Historical-Romance Drama 'Saeraenadae'

According to a source, Jo Byeong Gyu humbly turned down an offer to headline in the new historical romance drama "Saeraenadae" (literal title). His agency HB Entertainment revealed that the actor decided to decline the work due to conflict of schedules.

Originally, Jo Byeong Gyu was offered to play the main protagonist role of Park Yeong, a prince of Joseon who disguises himself as a reclusive unemployed man. In July, the media first delivered the good news of the actor's casting, supported by HB Entertainment's statement that the actor was positively reviewing the work.

As of this writing, the production has no say yet on who will lead the upcoming drama.

Meanwhile, "Saeraenadae" follows the love story between a prince of Joseon, who wants to leave the country to find happiness, and a young lady from a poor family, who wants to be happy by becoming successful in Joseon.

Jo Byeong Gyu made his entertainment debut through the series "Who Are You" in 2015. He impressed the viewers with his noteworthy performance in the famous drama "SKY Castle." Since then, the rising star received more projects where he showcased his versatility as an actor.

He built a solid portfolio by appearing in "Arthdal Chronicles," "Stove League," and "The Uncanny Counter" and recently solidified his acting as he returned in the second installment of the action-adventure series.

Despite declining to appear in "Saeraenadae," Jo Byeong Gyu still booked in new projects. It has been said that for his next work, he plans to star in the movie "Even If I Die Once Again."

The movie foretells the story of a man in his 40s and works as a stunt performer. One day, he dies due to an accident, but wakes up and realizes that he is alive again. He finds himself as a high school student.

Jo Byeong Gyu will portray the role of Woo Seok. The production started in 2022 and is tentatively for release this 2024 in cinemas.

Furthermore, Jo Byeong Gyu will also have his first attempt at dubbing in the movie "Atom New Beginning," which will be released this January 31.
