Lee Sung Kyung's Unexpected Career Path Leads Her to Showbiz

In continuation of Lee Sung Kyung's guest appearance in BTS Suga's "Suchwita," which premiered on February 5, the actress revealed more about the behind-the-scenes stories of her unexpected friendship with Yoongi and how she ended up becoming a celebrity.

Lee Sung Kyung opened up about the spontaneous path she had to becoming an instant celebrity after her family experienced hardships when she was still young.

She said she was preparing to enter a music school for college when her parents saw an ad searching for supermodels and suggested she apply.

Later on, she became a model, teaching herself how to walk on the runway.

She is self-taught by watching different videos on YouTube before having formal training.

Since then, the "Dr. Romantic" star started to develop an interest in pursuing musicals.

Luckily, she was contacted about an opportunity to make an appearance in the popular series "It's Okay, That's Love."

Lee Sung Kyung Makes Acting Debut Without Any Formal Training

Lee Sung Kyung was told that the director wanted a new face, someone without acting experience for Oh So Nyeo's role.

Given that she was in the modeling industry at that time, and had no acting experience at all, the actress revealed that the "It's Okay, That's Love" team requested her agency, YG Entertainment, not to give her any acting training for the role.

When the production was finally happening, she asked the drama's writer about the decision of not wanting her to have acting experience for the role and revealed to her that, "No such thing as a tone for high schoolers or delinquents."

She continued, "Since Oh So Nyeo was a 'delinquent' character, the less polished and more authentic the performance will be."

Due to this, Lee Sung Kyung was able to make her acting debut without any professional training. The actress humbly shared that acting without formal training was beneficial to her and she understood more the true meaning of acting.

After her first drama in 2014, Lee Sung Kyung immediately received love calls from various productions and landed a special project in 2015 titled "Flower of the Queen." Through that work, she bagged her first-ever Best New Actress title at the MBC Drama Awards.

The following year 2016 onwards, Lee Sung Kyung started to get noticed by the viewers and rose to stardom through the romantic-comedy drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo."
