Lee Sung Kyung Reveals How Challenging It Was for Her to Play Kim Bok Joo's Character
BTS Suga, who was attentively listening to her, replied, "I remember your role as weightlifter Kim Bok Joo the most. Didn't you put on lots of weight for your role as well?"
The actress nodded and revealed, "Yes, I weighed about 10 kg more than how much I weigh now. I still have stretch marks from rapid weight gain back then. I gained weight so quickly at that time."
Lee Sung Kyung explained why she had to rush filming for "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo." According to her, she immediately started shooting the rom-com series just 15 days after she wrapped up "The Doctors."
She went on, "I didn't have time to do it step by step. On top of that, I had commercials and pictorials in between those 15 days. I pretty much had to gain weight as the filming began."
Lee Sung Kyung Proud to Pull Off Kim Bok Joo's Role Despite the Difficulties
Surprised by her revelations, Min Yoongi was amazed at how Lee Sung Kyung was able to pull it all off.
The model-actress replied, "Yes, it was. The first thing I did was to try making my face swollen so that I could at least make my face look fat. I even had spicy galbi-jjim late at night."
Lee Sung Kyung continued, "If my face looked swollen from a late-night salty meal the next morning, I would be so happy, and headed to the filming set."
She noted that even though she had difficulties in preparing for her role as Kim Bok Joo, in the end, it was all worth it for Lee Sung Kyung. She honestly confessed that she was not worried about gaining weight, but more scared that she wouldn't look like her weightlifter character.
Before the topic concluded, the award-winning actress remarked, "My body couldn't take a great amount of food at night, so I would often have digestive problems. But I felt proud of myself. I felt like I was finally becoming a real actress."
