Top stars Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye had their long-awaited reunion through "Doctor Slump." Unfortunately, the K-drama is drawing disapproval for its disappointing finale.

What happened?

'Doctor Slump' Wraps Finale Episode With Disappointing Rating

Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye brought excitement with their K-drama reunion, ten years after they starred in the hit romantic series "The Heirs." Since both are currently among the most in-demand celebrities, some were expecting their drama to be a big hit.

However, this expectation turned into disappointment for its not-so-victorious conclusion.

'No Chemistry': Reporter Claims Reasons for 'Doctor Slump's' Disappointing Finale

"Doctor Slump" premiered on January 27 and kicked off with a 4.06 percent rating. On March 17, the drama wrapped up.

The K-drama was a much-anticipated series as it marked Park Shin Hye's return to the screen after giving birth. Her last project was "Sisyphus: The Myth" in 2021.

Unfortunately, her drama comeback did not live up to its hype. "Doctor Slump" began with an impressive rating but could not exceed double-digit ratings. It recorded an average score of 8.2 percent in Episode 10, but failed to maintain a good rating until its last episode, which recorded a 6.5 percent viewership rating.

Even though these records are decent, they are low in comparison to the anticipation to the series. On March 19, a news outlet pointed out the reasons the drama didn't fulfill the public's expectations and for recording a low score despite having a big cast.

According to the review, the reason for "Doctor Slump's middling scores was the lack of chemistry between Park Hyung Sik and Park Shin Hye.

"The biggest issue is the lack of chemistry between the lead stars. It has been a while since Park Shin Hye appeared on the small screen after getting married. The actors' lack of rapport was a fatal blow to the rom-com, which the genre demands. The result diminished the anticipation of their long-awaited reunion.

Another reason for the series' poor results is the writing. The script offered nothing new to the genre and there are criticisms lamenting that the beginning of the plot was too long."

The reporter went on:

"'Dr. Slump' put forward famous actors but ended disastrously without receiving favorable reviews or harsh reviews. The project also left a big stain on actors' filmography."
