Kim Sae Ron is reportedly returning to acting as the controversial actress becomes part of the upcoming stage play "Dongchimi."

The former teen star, who is currently on hiatus due to drunk driving, will be having a comeback project.

In addition, this also marks the actress's first acting project since her hiatus due to the DUI incident.

Kim Sae Ron Update: Actress Joins Upcoming Theater Play 'Dongchimi'

In a report, Kim Sae Ron is joining the theater play "Dongchimi," which depicts the story of a problematic family.

The parents consist of a pragmatic father and a sacrificial and dotting mother, while the children struggle with their responsibilities amid their interpersonal conflicts.

Interestingly, the upcoming play scored various recognitions, which include the National Assembly Awards of the Year and the Korea Creative Culture and Arts Awards.

While the report did not state what character Kim Sae Ron might be playing, "Dongchimi" will be premiering from May 3 to 12 in Seoul.

Kim Sae Ron DUI Case

In May 2022, Kim Sae Ron made headlines after the former teen star was caught drunk driving in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Per reports, "The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim" star hit public properties such as street trees, transformers, and guardrails at around 8 a.m., resulting in massive disruption of traffic and business around the area.

Due to this, several business establishments and merchants have been affected by the damage, prompting them to cancel their operations.

As a result, the actress has compensated the affected individuals through an agreement.

On top of this, Kim Sae Ron was booked on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and was sentenced to a fine of 20 million won.

It was after tests showed that the blood alcohol concentration was 0.2 percent, which is enough to revoke her driver's license.

At the height of the issue, Kim Sae Ron's upcoming projects were also affected by the scandal.

She stepped down from her role in the SBS K-drama "Trolley," while her appearance in Netflix's "Bloodhounds" was reduced.

In December of 2022, Kim Sae Ron became a free agent after her agency, Gold Medalist, did not renew her contract with them.

The said agency houses a slew of South Korean top stars, including Kim Soo Hyun.

Speaking of the "Queen of Tears" star, Kim Sae Ron was also caught up in a dating controversy involving the actor.

The dating rumor sent fans into a frenzy after the former teen star uploaded a candid photo with the actor on her Instagram story, which she immediately deleted.

However, it left a digital footprint, making headlines on various outlets.

Gold Medalist immediately released a statement, shutting down rumors about the duo's romance.
