Lee Dong Hwi spilled some untold stories about the hit K-drama "Chief Detective 1958," and what i was like to work with amazing actors.

In addition to this, the actor also dished out on his future plans in show business and upcoming projects.

During his interview, Lee Dong Hwi expressed how grateful he is for the warm support of viewers for the MBC K-drama "Chief Detective 1958."

The crime-thriller series wrapped up the first season with an impressive viewership of 10.6 percent on average nationwide. The figure is so close to the drama's personal best of 19.8 percent on its third episode.

Meanwhile, Lee Dong Hwi and Lee Je Hoon's drama ranked 4th in the most buzzworthy dramas.

Lee Dong Hwi Reveals His 'Chief Detective 1958' Character Initially Had Romance With Jung Soo Bin

"Chief Detective 1958" was all about the detective's journey to end corruption in Jongnam.

In addition to this, the story also highlighted Detective Park Young Han's (Lee Je Hoon) romance with Lee Hae Joo (Seo Eun Soo), a bookstore owner who later became his wife.

Interestingly, Lee Dong Hwi, who played the role of Park Young Han's fellow senior detective, Kim Sang Soon, initially had a romantic connection with Officer Bong Nan Sil, portrayed by Jung Soo Bin.

According to the actor, his character has a bit of romance with Officer Bong, but it was edited out.

"There was a little more romance after saving Police Officer Bong from danger, but when I watched the broadcast, it didn't show up."

Lee Dong Hwi shared what the scene would look like if MBC didn't cut out the said part.

"In fact, I suggested watching the movie, but it ended with me getting rejected because I decided to watch it with police officer Nam. After that, there was a little more romance. I couldn't have expected the story to be told, so I'm glad I didn't film it."

In "Chief Detective 1958," Kim Sang Soon is one of the OGs of Jongnam Police who warmly welcomed Park Young Han when he moved to Seoul.

Prior to the broadcast, the MBC drama was among the highly anticipated series since it was based on the longtime running TV show "Chief Inspector," which is considered a "national drama" in the 1970s.

According to Lee Dong Hwi, the pressure of joining the series is normal since it is among the legendary K-dramas, but he took it as a challenge, but in a good way.

"Chief Detective 1958" also featured veteran actor Choi Bul Am, who originally played the role of Park Young Han in the 1971 "Chief Inspector."

He revealed that the senior actor gave him insights on what a detective Kim is as a person.

"He said that he had excellent judgment and memory, and although he was a troublemaker before, he showed an attitude of becoming more mature than his two younger brothers."

As for Lee Je Hoon, he acts more like an older brother than a leader to him.

To recall, other than being co-stars in "Chief Detective 1958," Lee Je Hoon is also the CEO of Lee Dong Hwi's agency, COMPANY ON.
