Netflix dropped major updates about the much-awaited K-drama "Squid Games" Seasons 2 and 3.
With the public's increasing anticipation, the streaming giant revealed what to expect in the upcoming sequels.
Released in September 2021, the 9-episode K-drama immediately gained the attention of viewers by delivering a unique take on survival games.
Helmed by Hwang Dong Hyuk, with Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon, and Wi Ha Joon as the lead stars, the psychological drama holds Netflix's record as the most popular series of all time, making it the platform's biggest show yet.
Sparking a huge craze among global viewers, "Squid Game" has amassed over 1.65 billion view hours in just 28 days after its premiere.
'Squid Game' Seasons 2 and 3 End Production
After almost 3 years of waiting, viewers could finally see "Squid Game" season 2 on Netflix.
In a report by Osen, the cast members and the staff have recently finished filming seasons 2 and 3.
To celebrate the success, the team reportedly went on a 2-day trip to Gapyeong County, a county in Gyeonggi Province.
The first day, which was on June 11, was dedicated to marking the last day of filming.
The "Squid Game" cast and staff celebrated, had a great time doing leisure activities, and had a barbecue party to commemorate their hard work.
It can be recalled that Hwang Dong Hyuk has been working on the story for the upcoming sequels right after Netflix and drama officials confirmed the renewal.
Following the completion of the cast lineup, the team began filming in July 2023, a whopping 11-month journey.
During the middle of the production, various outlets mentioned that "Squid Game" seasons 2 and 3 would be produced simultaneously, but Netflix shut down the rumors.
"We are currently busy with season 2, and it is not being produced simultaneously. It has not been confirmed yet."
However, a representative confirmed that they are filming the two seasons at the same time but will be releasing it separately.
How Many Episodes is 'Squid Game' Season 2?
While season 1 ends with 9 episodes, "Squid Game" season 2 is said to have 6 episodes, while season 3 is also planned to have 6 to 7 episodes.
Squid Game' Season 2 Release Date
As mentioned, Netflix will not be releasing the two upcoming sequels simultaneously; however, there might be a minimal gap between seasons 2 and 3 premiere dates.
Regarding the official release of "Squid Game" season 2, Netflix hinted that the second installment will be released in the second half of 2024.
