In the latest episodes, various efforts have been made by Jung Woo to uncover the real killer who took the lives of his two friends. However, his efforts continue to face very convoluted obstacles. So, what are the reasons that make the murder case in the drama Black Out difficult to unravel?

Law enforcement officials are complicit in covering up the truth.

The main reason this case is difficult to uncover is the dishonesty of law enforcement. It entangles someone who is not the murderer into taking responsibility. The murder case was handled by Hyun Gu Tak (Kwon Hae Hyo) at the time.

He used his power to lead the investigation to cover up his son's involvement in the case. Starting with Gu Tak, other officials under his leadership also participated in covering up the murder case.

Various efforts they made included pressuring Jung Woo to confess, creating false evidence, and attempting to eliminate actual evidence. Gu Tak and Kim Hee Do (Jang Won Young) also tried to create a false scenario in this case.

False statements from witnesses that burden Jung Woo

Three characters involved in the murder are Yang Byeong Mu (Lee Tae Gu), Shin Min Soo (Lee Woo Jae), and Hyun Geon Oh (Lee Ga Sub). They are Jung Woo's friends from school. Jung Woo, his friends, and the victims were always together.

When questioned as witnesses, all three provided false statements that burdened Jung Woo. They did not admit to having drank with Bo Young before the murder occurred. Instead, they all testified that Bo Young was last seen with Jung Woo and was involved in a heated argument.

After seeing Jung Woo and his family suffer, Geon Oh felt pity and guilt. He then resolved to turn himself in and tell the truth about what happened.

He did this to help Jung Woo clear his name. Knowing his son was about to turn himself in, Goo Tak tried to obstruct this process with Kim Hee Do's help.

He threatened Geon Oh by exploiting his twin's mental condition. In addition to silencing Geon Oh, Goo Tak also silenced his twin's testimony, who tried to reveal what actually happened through painting.

Lack of evidence

The lack of evidence is one reason why the mystery of the murder in this drama is hard to uncover. The disappearance of actual perpetrator evidence forced Jung Woo to prove his innocence.

However, since his arrest, there has not been a single piece of evidence or witness stating that Jung Woo was not at the scene when the murder occurred.

Both of his parents were not home at that time. Meanwhile, all of his involved friends deliberately sacrificed Jung Woo. The police on duty even reduced evidence of the actual perpetrator and burdened Jung Woo with newly created evidence.

The difficulty of reopening a case from decades ago

After completing his sentence, Jung Woo always tried to ask the police to reopen his case. However, the lack of direct evidence was also a reason why this case was difficult to reopen. Moreover, the incident occurred decades ago.

When new evidence regarding Bo Young's body was found, it did not automatically lead to the reopening of this case.

Although Detective Noh Sang Cheol (Goo Jun) requested that this case be reopened, Goo Tak did not allow it. This is what led Sang Cheol and Jung Woo to work independently to solve his case because other police would not help.

Faced with various obstacles, Jung Woo remains determined to uncover the real perpetrator. He does this because he is no longer afraid of threats since even his mother's life has been threatened, but no one cares.
