Nam Yoon Su, an actor known for his roles in Extracurricular and The King's Affection, addressed homophobic remarks made against his upcoming LGBTQIA+ K-drama Love in the Big City at the recent press conference with an upbeat attitude.
The actor, who will be playing a gay character in the highly anticipated series, says he prefers to think of all the excellent feedback he is receiving, not the mean comments.
Recently, Nam has become a target of criticism by various religious groups and individuals protesting against the drama over its portrayal of LGBTQIA+ content.
They have organized protests, leaving homophobic comments on his social media, but, as he told reporters, he is not letting it get to him.
"I just laugh at them," he said. "The positive responses far outweigh the negative, and that's what I focus on," he added.
Fans of the actor gushed over his mature and lighthearted response to controversy; they assured that Nam was not alone and that they all loved him.
An international fan even posted a screenshot of Nam's direct message, in which he said, "Don't worry. I'm fine. It's not a big deal."
Religious organizations have targeted the drama's promotional materials, and its trailer has been revoked from the production company's websites.
However, according to writer Park Sang Young, Love in the Big City will premiere as scheduled on October 21.
The drama, which has been adapted from a bestseller novel, has garnered attention for its bold portrayal of a gay relationship in a mainstream TV spot.
