C-Drama Fangs of Fortune, starring C-pop idols, misfires ratings soon after premiere.
Since the show's debut on Oct. 26, it just scored 4.9 out of 10 on Chinese site Douban (a review site like Rotten Tomatoes).
Set in the Zhenyuan era, "Fangs of Fortune" tells how chaos descends after the goddess Bai Ze (who ruled human and demon worlds alike) accidentally dropped dead.
The plot follows Zhu Yan (played by Chan), a demon leader who goes undercover as Zhao Yuanzhou and sets up a bureau with the mission of quelling demons and rumors in order to bring back peace.
The main characters are Wen Xiao (played by former WJSN member Chen Xiao) and Li Lun (portrayed by PENTAGON's Yanan).
While its premise sounds interesting enough, audiences have had mixed reactions. Viewers are making their displeasure known, with comments calling the show "unwatchable" and clumsy.
"I watched 4 episodes only." Another user chimed in with, "3.9 might be the most generous score to give it."
However, some others lauded the series for its visual and storylines. A fan on social media said: "Watching Fangs of Fortune and I love it very much!!! Additional comments noted the humor and character growth.
The series is far from over though and whether or not the show can prop up or justify its placement with audiences or of if this is just another coffin nail remains to be seen.
