Stunning actress Yoo In Na has described her disturbing experience as a victim of a romance scam, shining a light on the risks of online fraud.
In a recent episode on her YouTube channel, "Yoo In Radio," she spoke about her experience while interviewing actor Park Jung-min.
Yoo, in her early 20s at the time, described the occasion when she was working part-time at a café. A man came up to her and said, "Hye-young."
Confused and alarmed, she corrected him by saying, "I'm not Hye-young. My name is In-na."
The situation took a sinister twist when he revealed to her that he had pictures he had taken of her stolen from her Cyworld account.
According to Yoo, "A woman collected all my pictures in Cyworld and made up a story about it. It didn't end there. It was romance phishing. She even took out a loan from him."
You commanded the specifics of all of their amounts, which at the right time naturally felt like memorable sums, "Was it 1 million won? 2 million won? At the time, it felt like a lot of money."
The actress explained that once the victim confronted the imposter, he later contacted her and returned some of the funds.
Yoo said, "That person said to Hye-young, 'I really was with the person in this pictures, I'm going to report you,' and only then did she contact me."
Although Yoo had a bad experience, she looked back at it as a memorable moment in her life.
"It was a bad thing obviously but it was one of my life episodes, even after a long time," she said.
Widely shared through social media, romance scams have infiltrated the online world in recent times, consisting of attractive lies that play on emotion and then lead to financial gain.
Yoo's disclosure is a sober reminder of the dangers of revealing personal details on the internet, and a caution of remaining alert to con work.
