Chinese actress Zhao Wei confirmed her divorce from Huang Youlong while asking the public to disassociate her from her ex-husband's money disputes in a post she made on her social media on Dec 28.
Zhao, 48, revealed in her statement that she legally divorced Huang years ago. She wrote: "I have officially divorced Mr. Huang many years ago, and our marriage has been legally dissolved. Any incidents, remarks, or news reports about him have nothing to do with me."
The post was Zhao's first reference to the divorce, which has been the subject of speculation since the couple separated years before legally divorcing.
The actress urged the public not to associate her with Huang's problems. "I sincerely urge everyone to acknowledge these facts and refrain from involving me in false associations or baseless reports. Thank you all," she added.
It also comes as Zhao Wei tries to distance herself from her ex-husband's massive debt claims and their associated joint business interests. The two were once dubbed a power couple in entertainment and business as they married in 2008.
However, the two made headlines together for the wrong reasons when both received hefty fines in 2018 that kept them out of the Chinese securities market for five years.
In recent years, Zhao herself has overcome challenges, including a blacklisting in 2021 that kept her largely off-screen. Her latest update sparked speculation of a return to the spotlight.
Zhao Wei appears in many films and television series, and she is still one of the most famous stars in China.
