With a possible new drama in the works, 2014 may be a better year for actor Cha Seung Won.
Last year he was set to star in the highly anticipated saeguk "Unprecedented" about a conflict in the Joseon dynasty. But that production has been postponed indefinitely and many of the actors involved have chosen to move on to other projects.
Cha Seung Won also spent much of last year involved in his son Cha No Ah's legal problems. His son was charged with smoking marijuana and ultimately sentenced to probation. His son was also charged with sexual assault but those charges have since been dropped.
Now Cha Seung Won is considering a role in the new drama "You're Surrounded." It's a drama about police recruits and what it means to be passionate about police work. Among the police recruits are four 20-something officers known as the Youth Gang of Four. Lee Seung Gi will play one of those recruits, the charming and problematic Eun Dae Gu. Cha Seung Won is up for role of a hot-tempered senior officer and team leader, so the plot may call on him to discipline Lee Seung Gi.
A representative from his agency T Entertainment said that the 43-year-old actor was positively considering the offer.
"If he decides to join the project it will definitely move the casting along," said the T Entertainment representative.
It would not be the first time that Cha Seung Won and Lee Seung Gi worked together. When Cha Seung Won appeared in the drama "Best Love," Lee Seung Gi did a cameo. Then they did a refrigerator commercial together.
The drama would be Cha Seung Won's first since he played the arrogant star Dokko Jin in the Hong Sisters comedy hit "The Greatest Love." The 2011 drama was so popular that was often parodied. The actor's performance in it earned awards. Cha Seung Won also appeared in the dramas "City Hall" and "Athena: Goddess of War." And he did a film last year titled "High Heels," in which he played a detective.
Besides the involvement of Lee Seung Gi, whose popularity rose even further after his starring role in "Gu Family Book," "You're Surrounded" uses the talents of a top-notch screenwriter and a star director.
Lee Jung Sun, who wrote Okajgyo Brothers" is writing the script. Yoo In Sik, who directed "Incarnation of Money," History of a Salaryman" and "Giant" will direct. The drama is set to follow "Three Days" which has an unconfirmed start date in February.
