Rumors say that Kim Soo Hyun, star of "You Who Came From The Stars" might next play a Joseon-era vampire.
The fact that he plays a 400-year-old alien may have naturally led some to imagine him starring in an adaptation of the manga "The Scholar Who Walks The Night."
That speculation may also have something to do with Key East buying the rights to the manga, which is about a Joseon-era vampire who is also a scholar.
Kim Soo Hyun's agency says he has not been contacted about such an offer and he is still busy with his "You Who Came From The Stars" role. If he does get the offer and takes the role, he will not be the first k-drama vampire.
There were two other recent k-dramas with some bite:
"Vampire Prosecutor" was a drama about a prosecutor with a dark side. The drama ran for two seasons and starred Yun Jung Hoon, Lee Won Jong, Lee Young Ah and Kim Joo Young.
Yun Jung Hoon played Tae Yeon, a prosecutor who knows how victims died when he smells or tastes their blood. This supernatural ability makes it easier to solve some cases but using it makes it harder for him to hide his identity.
The big mystery in his life, and the one he cannot solve, is who turned him into a vampire.
The only other vampire drama was a sitcom named "Vampire Idol." In that 2011 comedy a vampire prince visits Earth to see a performance by his favorite idol contender. When he gets stuck on earth, he decides to join the competition. The comedy is notable for some of its up and coming stars.
The comedy starred Lee Jung as the vampire prince, Kang Min Kyung, Shin Dong Yup, Kim Soo Mi, Lee Soo Hyuk, Kim Woo Bin and Hong Jong Hyun. Yes, that's the same Kim Woo Bin that became last year's big breakout star in "School 2013" and "The Heirs." Lee Soo Hyuk was seen last year in 'Shark" and Hong Jong Hyun in "Dating Agency: Cyrano."
And in the supporting cast were Kwang Hee, Minah, Woo Hee, Soo Yeon, Yu Bi, and Dong Soo.
The concept of vampire idols was a little weird but the cast was attractive.
So far, k-drama has not really explored the notion of a sparkly Edward Cullen romantic vampire, although it has delivered other romantic paranormal creatures.
If anyone could make a vampire look romantic, it is Kim Soo Hyun. And we already know that he looks good in Joseon-era clothing.
