Slumdog Millionaire Child Actors Reunite: See How They Look Like After Five Years, Film Director Danny Boyle Proud ‘They’re Benefiting Hugely’

Do you ever wonder what happened to the six unknown kids that starred in the controversial Danny Boyle film? Let's find out as the "Slumdog Millionaire" child actors reunite and talks to The Hollywood Reporter about school and career. The children met up for the first time after five years in Mumbai for the pictorial of the THR Oscar issue, which was held a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, Ayush Khedekar, who played as the Young Jamal in the Oscar-winning film, wasn't able to attend the reunion due to school exams. However, he was photographed in his own home the next day.

The phrase "Wow! Look at how you've grown!" can be heard repeatedly in the studio of renowned photographer Colston Julian. What's also amazing was how two of the child actors end up looking like their elder versions in the movie. Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismael are now in their early teens whereas Ashutosh Gajiwala and Tanvi Lonkar are already in college. Two of the poorest children, Ali and Ismael, are both beneficiaries of the Jai Ho Trust that the film director had set up to secure their education and shelter. Ismael shared to THR, "I used to live in a slum. Now I live in a nice apartment and go to a good school." Boyle is proud that 'they're benefiting hugely.'

As the Slumdog Millionaire child actors reunite, the memories of their Oscar moment returned as well. Back in 2009, the kids were walking the red carpet and mingling with huge stars - from Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt to Miley Cyrus. The Danny Boyle film won eight awards at the Oscars including best director and best picture. Tanay Chheda shared her experience, "More than a dream, it was fantasy come true."

Seeing the Slumdog Millionaire child actors reunite and knowing that they are all doing well is a pleasing sight. The mini reunion may have ended, but Rubina will always treasure that moment. She said, "This has been an amazing day, spending all this time together after so long. It was like we were shooting the film again." Do you think it's about time that Danny Boyle makes a sequel to the "Slumdog Millionaire"?
