Samsung Galaxy S3 Update: Sprint's own support documents for the Galaxy S3 list a release day of May 1, 2014 for the announcement of an update to Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy S3 on Sprint is the first of the S3 line-up to receive KitKat. It was last updated in November with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, according to Android Central.

"Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S3 is getting an update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat today. Back in February, Samsung listed the devices that would get KitKat, with the Galaxy S3 being on that list, followed shortly by confirmation from Sprint. The one thing missing from both promises of updates was a timeline. Turns out that timeline, at least for Sprint Galaxy S3 owners, come to a head today," Android Central stated.

Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3's Android 4.4 Kitkat update was seen twice. First, the OS update was in Sprint's Web site on a user agent profile. The listing is for SPH-L710 which is Sprint's Galaxy S3's model number. The handset runs with the 4.4.2 version of Kitkat OS according to GottaBeMobile.

Samsung post the Sprint Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 kernel source to its OpenSource website for developers. This is yet another sign that the update should be imminent. Neither appearance confirms the update's release date but it does mean that a roll out should be right around the corner.

This kernel source file isn't going to be useful for the general public so the large file should be avoided. Developers that have an interest in the software, whether it's for ROM development or otherwise, can download the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat software right now.

According to International Business Times, it remains unconfirmed whether the Sprint's update will mark the start of Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 Kitkat update release. But apparently Sprint was the first carrier of the Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update and one of the first to the Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 Kitkat update. Thus, there is a high chance that Sprint will be the first in line to get the update.

Other carriers have not confirmed their plans for their own Galaxy S3 handsets and have not announced whether their users will receive the cited version of the mobile software.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users will be delighted with the news that the device will receive Android 4.4 KitKat update. Galaxy Note 2 started receiving the Android 4.4 Kitkat OS update according to International Business Times.

Report says that Samsung started rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat update for its second generation Galaxy Note smartphone. Users in Europe will be the first to get updated mobile software, most specifically in France. The update will then roll out to different parts of Europe.
