On May 9, The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema delivered an initial announcement regarding the upcoming New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). Lee Jung Jae will be the Korean Actor In Focus for 2014 NYAFF, with his films “The Face Reader” and the “New World” included as selections for the festival. In addition to the Korean Actor In Focus, the crime thriller “Cold Eyes” will also screen at NYAFF.
NYAFF will take place from at The Film Society of Lincoln Center from June 27-July 10, the Japan Society July 10-13, and the Asia Society July 13-14.
This is the thirteenth season for NYAFF, which highlights some of the most unique Asian films, actors,and directors. The festival extends beyond Korean cinema and explores the gems that are found throughout Asia. Action mega star and JJCC founder Jackie Chan was a honoree in attendance for 2013 NYAFF, with Ryu Seung Bum attending as the Korean Actor In Focus. This year, the NYAFF Centerpiece will be Uman Boya's “Kano”, a sports film about a ragtag baseball team which earned the right in 1931 to compete in Japan. Films selected for NYAFF range from the risque romp “3D Naked Ambition” which focuses on the adult industry to Andy Lau's “Firestorm”.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center, Subway Cinema, and The Japan Society will complete the line up announcement of the 2014 NY Asian Film Festival soon. Ticket sales will begin on June 3 for Members of The Film Society of Lincoln Center, with ticketing for the General Public beginning on June 12. Ticket prices range from $8 with three-film packages at $30.
