"Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers are up and even "Winds of Winter" author George R. R. Martin admitted to being shocked after reading the outline and whose character is being killed off by the HBO series creators.
"As bloody as I am, [showrunners] David Benioff and Dan Weiss are always turning things up to eleven. So really no-one is safe," he told host Conan O'Brien, per UK's Mirror.
The poster for the series released by HBO features a tagline "All men must die" which really sets the tone for what's in store for the characters. George R. R. Martin likewise confirmed what viewers already expect through the author's own "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers.
For one, he said, that "no one is safe" from the hit TV series and even those who read the books should not be too optimistic about their favorite characters.
"Even the book readers who say, 'Well, this character is safe, he's not in any trouble because he's still in book five', may have an unpleasant surprise," he said.
So although the "Game of Thrones" season 4 is based on the "A Song of Fire and Ice" books, the show's creators have the license to take a different route when it comes to the characters that even George R. R. Martin had to admit:
"I do kind of squeal a bit when I get the outline, 'Wait a minute, wait a minute, he's not dead in the books, he's still alive in the books,'" he told Conan.
George R. R. Martin also gives his secret why he can just kill the characters at "Games of Thrones," like the pink wedding where King Joffrey was poisoned.
"When you make the show and meet the actors, it's harder to kill them. You're like, 'Oh, that'll be Jack out of a job then but I killed them years ago," he said.
Watch out for more "Games of Thrones" spoilers as they come along. The show continues airing on HBO.
