Luis Suarez Sanction by FIFA due to Biting Incident

After the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) conducted an investigation regarding the biting incident between Uruguay Forward Luis Suarez and Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the their Match for the FIFA World Cup, the have finally come up with a verdict to the case.

The Liverpool player with be banned from all football activities for four months. This means that he won't be able to continue and play with the Uruguay team in the knockouts. Not only that, the 27 year old Uruguay native won't be able to play in 9 international games which extends beyond the four month period including his stint for next year's Copa America. To top it all, he has also been fined by FIFA worth 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000).

According to the chairman of the FIFA disciplinary committee, Claudio Sulser, "Such behavior cannot be tolerated on any football pitch and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup, when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field." He added "The disciplinary committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez's guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated."

This is the third time that Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent. What's more sad is that besides not being able to play for Uruguay, he has also been prohibited from entering a stadium in the world cup. In addition to this, he is also not allowed to train with the Liverpool team not until the ban ends in late October.

This is indeed a harsh yet fitting sanction to a crime. This is one of the most severe punishment served by FIFA in reference to an offense committed on the field.

When Liverpool was asked to comment of the results of the investigation then said "Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment."

Suarez has been awarded as football writers' Player of the Year. According to FWA chairman Andy Dunn with regards to the award given "Tireless endeavour allied to extraordinary imagination makes an irresistible combination, add ingenious, impudent finishing and you have a footballer who truly quickens the pulse."

Besides that he also received the award for Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association. This only goes to show that Luis Suarez has a lot of potential yet it seems like his personality is getting the best of him.
