5 Korean Celebrities Rally to Support Wildfire Victims

With more than 36,300 acres of land consumed by ravaging wildfires in South Korea, some high-profile celebrities have made headlines by donating to help relief efforts.

As of Tuesday, over 3,700 firefighters were struggling to control the blazes, with 76 helicopters and 530 emergency vehicles dispatched for the job, while some areas, like Uiseong and Andong, were reported to be nearly 70 percent under control, reported the Yonhap News Agency.

Stars Extend Helping Hands

Lee Chan Won also donated 100 million KRW ($75,000) to the victims in the Yeongnam region, which has been heavily affected by the fires.

"Since this is a disaster that struck his hometown, Lee felt he had to do something to help those affected," his agency said.

"I hope this small contribution can be useful to those who are struggling to recover from this tragedy," Lee said in a statement.

Another example is comedian Yoo Jae Suk, a celebrity known for his long history of charitable donations, who donated 50 million KRW ($37,500) for relief efforts.

He donated to the Hope Bridge Association of the National Disaster Relief, a group that provides aid to communities affected by natural disasters.

"I just want to do whatever I can to support the people who are suffering," Yoo said.

Actor Im Si Wan also donated 30 million KRW ($22,500), emphasizing that he donated in the hope that his donation could give some comfort to those who were affected by the disaster.

"I hope that my donation can deliver even a little bit of warmth to those in distress," Im said in a statement released through his agency.

At the same time, WINNER Kim Jin Woo and broadcasting personality Lee Seung Yoon both donated 10 million KRW (approximately $7,500) to help the victims of the continuing wildfires.

The government and public response

Officials are still evaluating the damage and organizing disaster response efforts.

President Yoon Suk Yeol has ordered the full mobilization of emergency resources to avoid additional casualties and property damage.

Thousands of residents have evacuated as officials scramble to address the environmental and economic fallout.
