Korean Actor in Focus Lee Jung Jae was present for a New York Asian Film Festival press conference on July 7.

He thanked the New York Asian Film Festival organizers for choosing him as Korean Actor In Focus for NYAFF 2014. Lee Jung Jae also expressed his gratitude to those who are currently working to introduce Korean films to audiences within the United States.

When asked about the current state of Korean cinema he said, “At this very moment, ‘Transfomers’ is being shown in Korea and is being beaten by a Korean movie.” He believes that the increase in the domestic performance of Korean film can be attributed to the fact that the movies have “superior scenarios and are more fun, although that is not always the case.”

Lee Jung Jae commented that his favorite scene from the movie “New World” was the final scene in the movie.

Lee Jung Jae has modeled, acted in k-dramas but spent the majority of his career in film. When asked about the differences between modeling, acting in film, and in k-drama he said, “There are really no differences between the three. In modeling, k-drama acting, and film you are trying to sell a story to the audience.”

Lee Jung Jae has acted within contemporary films and within period films, but does not prefer one over the other. His process in selecting a role is based less on what time period the film will be set within, than the script itself.

During the press conference, he shared a few details about his upcoming project “Assassination.” “Assassination” begins filming in August 2014 and is a period film with a focus on the Korean revolution.

Lee Jung Jae was present for Q&A sessions and film introductions for “New World” and “The Face Reader.” On July 8, he will provide an introduction to “Il Mare” which will screen at 3:30PM as part of the New York Asian Film Festival.

KDramastars will have more from Lee Jung Jae, including an interview with the actor, as part of the New York Asian Film Festival coverage.
