Park Shi Hoo's legal problems continue even as the actor's new film is set to open in China.

Earlier this month, a lawsuit filed against him by a Hallyu content company was dismissed. The lawsuit claimed he owed the company about $300,000 because a video he was due to appear in was cancelled. Park Shi Hoo's lawyers claimed that he bore no responsibility for the project's failure. The project was supposed to be filmed in Thailand but that opportunity ended. The project was then going to be filmed in Korea but the actor could no longer participate. Park Shi Hoo's lawyers also contended that the actor never signed a contract and received no up front guarantee. Therefore he was not obligated to appear in the project.

The company said that they made a verbal agreement with the actor and that they had paid a guarantee.

Earlier this month the Seoul Southern District Court dismissed the case and said the company would have to pay the filing fees. The company refused to accept the court's decision and said they would appeal, taking the case to a higher court.

According to Park Shi Hoo's agency, Hoo Factory, there was an element of slander to the claim.

"There are many cases where people try to destroy a well-known celebrity's name and we think we received meaningful results. Even though it was unfair we dealt with it and responded quietly, and we're happy to see what we saw results. Park Shi Hoo will work harder to become a more modest, sincere actor for the fans who trusted and supported him."

Park Shi Hoo spent much of last year involved in legal problems as a result of an allegation of sexual assault against him by a rookie actress. The charges were eventually dropped and all the associated lawsuits were ended, but not before the actor's name was withdrawn from nominations for the Baeksang Awards.

The actor has not worked in Korea since the scandal but he has been filming in China and his first Chinese movie "Scent" premieres on Aug. 15. In the film he plays Korean designer Kang In Jun. His co-star is Chen Ran, a popular Chinese actress and fashionista. Award-winning art house director Jessie Tsang Tsui-Shan directed the film.

Park Shi Hoo became popular in China after his drama "Cheomdamdong Alice" was shown there. His earlier drama "The Princess' Man" is also due to air in China.

"Scent" does not yet have a release date in Korea.
