Jurgen Klinsmann is still positively popular in Germany despite signing some of the countries young players for Team USA, says German classic player, Franz Beckenbauer. The American coach reportedly hired John Brooks, who was born in Germany, and Julian Green, who was born in Florida, but raised and trained in Germany, too.
When asked if Klinnsman's recent signings have affected the nation's relationship, Beckenbauer said:
"Not at all," in an interview with Sporing News/ Goal USA.
"Klinsmann has given Brooks and Green a great opportunity with the U.S. team and they have taken it. Nobody is mad at them," he added.
Brooks is 21 years old of the moment, while Green is just 19.
"Both are still very young, but bright prospects," the Bundesliga legend added.
"Julian Green only played a few minutes at the World Cup, but with almost his only touch he scored against Belgium. You could see his potential there."
Beckenbauer has won the World Cup 1974 as a player, and won it in 1990, too, but as a coach. It is an interesting fact that he coached Klinsmann in the last World Cup won by the Germans.
"Jürgen Klinsmann is very popular in Germany," Beckenbauer said. "He was a good player and he is the face of the 'Sommermarchen 2006' (the "Summer Fairytale" when Klinsmann coached Germany to the World Cup semifinal on home soil).
"Many people here follow his work in the USA. He managed to build a stable national team in not much time, which made a good impression in Brazil. The U.S. can be proud of their team. They were eliminated in the round of 16 but only in extra time, with misfortune and after a big fight.
"Because of the training opportunities in Germany they have the best chances to mature into great players. I can't say how Hertha rates Brooks, but Bayern is very happy with Julian."
