An American YouTuber has claimed to have reported South Korean pop singer and actress IU to the CIA because she allegedly supported the protests that took place recently against President Yoon Seok Yeol.
YouTube channel Americanparangi put up a video called "I Reported IU to the CIA," in which the YouTuber claimed singer IU — real name Lee Ji Eun — had been giving a lot of support to protestors at impeachment protests and helped out with food for demonstrators.
The YouTuber said that she's encouraging others to hop on board.
"You guys know IU, right? The very famous singer. She's supporting people who are protesting against Y. She's even providing food for them and making it seem like they have to go out and protest," Americanparangi said in the video, as quoted by SportsKhan.
The YouTuber said that she plans to let everyone know about IU's supposed influence, so she asks his viewers to report IU as well. "I wanted to help her, too. I wanted her idea to be spread to a lot of people, so I told the CIA about what she was doing," she added.
Americanparagi claimed that IU is a significant icon for the protests against the South Korean government in a message apparently sent to the CIA.
She alleged that her actions could be interpreted as a threat and warned that it is foreign forces who are manipulating the situation in Korea and that it is becoming difficult for people involved in the protests to get U.S. visas.
The controversy comes after IU's recent involvement in food and support for protests supporting the impeachment of President Yoon.
The pop star has piqued the public's interest with all she has been up to, donating her time and money in light of all this political outrage.
Americanparangi, who boasts more than 86,000 YouTube followers, is facing online backlash for his controversial perspective and the call to act against IU.
The singer has not responded publicly to Americanparangi or the subsequent news headlines.
