"We are excited to be in this business with the formidable Weinstein brothers. 'Scream' is an iconic franchise, and MTV is the perfect network to bring this consistently surprising film to life on television," stated Susanne Daniels, President of Programming for the network.
The television adaptation will be directed by Jamie Travis, who's previously worked on "Faking It", according to the website. Travis' credits also include the 2012 Focus Features release "For a Good Time Call."
The original "Scream" that was released in 1996 was written by Kevin Williamson and featured Neve Campell, Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Live Schreiber, among other big names, according to Variety.
The series will be executive produced by the Weinsteins, Craven, Marianna Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.
