Suarez Bite Ban Update: 'Suarez Has Been Punished Enough,' Says CAS, Striker's Ban Will Surely Be Shortened

Luis Suarez's appeal hearing is certainly sparking up a shorter ban on the striker's biting incident. FIFPro already released a statement saying that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) already has a deision on the four- month, nine- match bite ban.

The Uruguay international has been banned by FIFA amid Suarez's biting incident against Giorgio Chiellini of Italy during the teams' Group D match in the last World Cup in June 26.

However, Suarez and his new team, Barcelona, has appealed the sanction in a three- man panel, which will decide whether or not his punishment will be reduced.

But for now, it is safe to say that he got what he wanted, based from this statement:

"FIFPro, the World Footballers' Association, agrees a sanction is needed. The question, however, is whether the combination of sanctions that FIFA imposed on the player is an appropriate way to deal with the case," the statement began.

"That Luis Suarez has been trialled and vilified in public, ever since the incident, is a sanction in itself. On the other hand, it has been remarkable to see the response from his fellow professionals and the victim himself, Giorgio Chiellini. Many agree the sanctions are excessive. This is an important signal for the CAS panel to consider.

"The sanctions are a disproportionate response to the offence. Especially the four-month ban from all football-related activity, which is unfair for Suarez as it infringes his right to work at club level."

Suarez was not even allowed to join his own unveiling at Barcelona because of the ban, because FIFA insisted that it was a 'football- related activity' in which Suarez is banned from attending even.

"At the end of the hearing, the Panel informed the parties that it will issue its decision as soon as possible, probably before the end of next week," a statement read.

"The full arbitral award, with the grounds, will follow at a later date and be published by the CAS."
