Lee Seung Gi did more than introduce performances at KCON 2014 in Los Angeles.
He also attended a fan event, signing autographs for a few lucky fans. In each case, he charmed his audiences by demonstrating his excellent command of the English language.
But the actor and singer also attended the Hallyu convention for a charitable reason. He participated in the donation of fundraising items at KCON's "Girls Education" booth. Money raised at the event will benefit the "WriteGirl" program, which works to provide educational opportunities to teens that can't afford them. Professional women writers launched the WriteGirl program in 2001 to help low income girls, 10 to 19, get access to creative writing programs. The program teaches girls writing skills and offers them a way to express themselves.
Lee Seung Gi's fans via US Airen and LSGKWA also donated supplies and cash to the WriteGirl program. CJ E&M prepared books, school supplies and teaching tools to send to the non-governmental organization. They invited Lee Seung Gi to participate in the event.
Everyone who attended and took part in the event got a special badge. And a few lucky fans got t-shirts that the "You Are All Surrounded" and "Gu Family Book" star had personally autographed.
When Lee Seung Gi visited the Girls Education booth he shared some encouraging words about the volunteers who worked there.
He said that he was impressed by the sincerity of their volunteer efforts.
"The passion of the student volunteers from Korea and the U.S. was incredible, and the local visitors' participation and response was also passionate, so I felt proud," he recently told Nate. "It was a great honor for me to join such a meaningful and well-intentioned charitable activity. I hope I was able to help even if just a little bit, those teen girls in the U.S. who are underprivileged for various reasons."
The actor is currently filming his first movie, "Today's Love" with co-star Moon Chae Won. In this film he plays Joon Soo, a man who gives everything when he falls in love, only to get repeatedly dumped. He meets Hyun Woo, a tough-talking weather reporter, played by Moon Chae Won, and falls in love with her. The film also stars actor Lee Seo Jin, who attended KCON with Lee Seung Gi. Lee Seo Jin will compete the movie love triangle.
Fans who met Lee Seung Gi at KCON were impressed with how genuinely nice he seemed.
