Serena Williams made a successful US Open run as she finished off her game to advance to the quarterfinals by beating Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3.

Williams looked ecstatic after qualifying in the quarterfinals for this first time this year.

She shouted "I did it!" Adding "I figured no matter what, I was still in doubles."

Williams has been playing almost every day this week as she is also playing doubles with her sister Venus. They'll play again tomorrow, facing Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the quarterfinals.

This would have to men that Serena won't have any time to rest before her quarterfinals match will start. But this also goes with her opponent 11th-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy. Pennetta has just defeated Casey Dellacqua 7-5, 6-2 in singles and had won her doubles with doubles Martina Hingis for their third round match.

Despite the history of Pennetta and Williams in previous match where Williams defeated her in straight sets as she marched to the title, Serena is still not keeping her guards down.

She said "I think the older she gets, the better she plays, to be honest. It is not an easy matchup for me."

She added "I never thought it would be so exciting [to advance to a quarterfinal]. It feels good. Obviously I don't want this to end. But I'm just happy that I'm able to be performing a little better at the end of the year."

Serena is currently ranked No. 1 in women's singles tennis. The Women's Tennis Association has ranked her World No. 1 in singles on six separate occasions. She has won her first US Opens in 1999 for the Singles and has won 5 US Opens since then.

Williams has won four Olympic gold medals, one in women's singles and three in women's doubles, an all-time record shared with her sister Venus.

Knowing that she is the US Open, WTA Tour Championships and Olympic ladies singles reigning champion, Serena is definitely put under pressure to impress and be at the finals. But she will definitely be working hard this time around as there are a lot of young and tough competitions during this years game.
