Police Say That Seungri Was Speeding

Big Bang member and "Angel Eyes" actor Seungri may have been speeding just before his recent accident, a representative of the Yongsan Police told Newsen.

"The black box results from the night Seungri was involved in the car accident have led to him being suspected of speeding," said the Yongsan Police representative. "We will send out a suspect notice to him shortly."

When asked to make a statement on whether he was speeding, Seungri's agency, YG Entertainment, told Newsen, "We are checking on it."

The black box footage reviewed by the police suggests that Seungri was going about 65 miles an hour in a 50 mile an hour zone when the accident happened.

If Seungri is found guilty of speeding he will be indicted for violating the traffic laws. Since the driver and passengers in the other car were injured while he was speeding, he could face a fine of around $100.

According to the publication, The Fact, Seungri admitted that he was speeding during a police investigation and described his decision to speed as immature. No other media source has confirmed this statement.

The accident took place around 3 a.m. on Sept. 12 as Seungri was driving home from the Nona9on clothing brand launch event at Club Octagon, which he attended with other members of Big Bang, as well as several other YG artists. Despite the fact that he was coming from a party, the Yongsan Police have stated that Seungri was not drinking on the night of the accident.

Seungri was driving his Porsche in the direction of Ilsan on the Gangbyeon Expressway in Seoul when he hit a Mercedes Benz driving in another lane. After hitting the Mercedes Benz on the Banpo Bridge, he hit the guardrail and his car flipped over.

At first Seungri refused treatment but fortunately EMTs on the scene persuaded him to be examined at a hospital. There he was diagnosed as having liver damage. He spent a week in the hospital undergoing treatment.

He was discharged from the hospital early to perform with Big Bang at the Incheon Asian Games. But he fainted and, since he had a high fever, he was re-admitted to the hospital. The investigation into the accident has been postponed due to Seungri's hospitalization and re-hospitalization.

Netizens seemed to agree that Seungri ought to pay the fine if he was found guilty. And that he should seriously consider the dangers of speeding.

"I hope he learns that it is dangerous and is careful in the future. I mean, he himself still suffers from the accident (I hope he gets well fast) and I hope he takes it to heart," said Sweet_Aline.
