The movie 'The Thieves' directed by Choi Dong Hoon has beat the movie 'Dark Knight Rises' directed by Christopher Nolan in the box office.
'The Thieves,' which premiered on the 25th of July, played on 891 movie screens and attracted 430,000 viewers since the day of release, making it first place in the box office. 'Dark Knight Rises,' which was first place before the premiere of 'The Thieves,' was shown on 789 movie screens and attracted only 194,951 viewers that day. On the 26th, 'The Thieves' played on 950 movie screens and attracted 410,190 viewers, while 2nd place 'Dark Knight Rises' played on 795 movie screens and attracted 167,311 viewers.
At first 'Dark Knight Rises' was expected to be extremely popular because director Christopher Nolan's works were known to set records. However, that expectation was broken as 'The Thieves' took first place and 'Dark Knight Rises' started to come to a halt. Although the weekend scores are not out yet, the comments about 'The Thieves' by word of mouth have been good and so it is planned to emphasize the movie in the box office.
